The purpose of this document is to guide users, especially Arquitects, in utilizing the Code Monitor view within the Quality Clouds platform. It gives clear instructions on how to compare the code of two instances or two versions of the same instance over time.

Description #

What is the Code Monitor view?  #

  • Platforms available: ServiceNow, Salesforce, or Office365 instance.
  • Users that have access: Normal user, Customer Admin, and Project user.

The Code Monitor view makes you compare the code between two instances or two versions of the same instance at different scan dates. This view proves valuable information for architects as it facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the inventory in volumes and types of development assets over time and across various environments. If you have an Admin user role, you can use this to review differences between environments before you deploy.

What data is shown #

The (Beta) Code Monitor view shows the following information in a side-by-side comparison mode:

  • Instance selection, including Target environment and Scan date
  • General instance information, such as the Version and Patch
  • Lines of code scanned
  • Inventory, i.e. AppsNew CEs and Total CEs
  • Application selection to filter down the configuration elements compared
  • List of configuration elements and their number comparedAll CEs that differ between one code base and the other are highlighted for ease of comparison.

Operational use #

Prerequisites: The Code Monitor view should be enabled and have more than one instance or more than one scan launched over time.

To compare the code, you need to first select the instance and the scan to which you want to compare.

→ How to compare the code?

  1. Select the Target environment and the Scan date
  2. Specify the Application for both code versions compared. Filter down the application level, to compare the same application over time, or the same application in two different instances. 

Click Highlight differences slider on the view header to highlight all the cells that differ in content between the instances or versions. 

You can also choose to show All Elements, Only Active Elements or Only Inactive Elements

Use the ‘Show differences‘ to identify discrepancies between different environments.
